Easy Weight Loss With Green Coffee Beans

The use of green coffee bean extract is now one of the most talked about weight loss dietary supplements. Easy weight loss is hurriedly applied to products we see on late night television promising overweight men and women the quick fix. This is one supplement however that is living up to its claim.
While I have no doubt that many of the products advertised do work, you should be aware that your first priority is staying healthy. Please don't get me wrong though, I am by no means saying that these weight loss promises are pushing products that are unhealthy for you, but rather that you should use some common sense and not sacrifice a healthy meal.
Come to think of it, if you are not feeding your body well then losing weight and looking slim and sexy will soon have no purpose if you are too sick to go to the beach or wear that close-fitting little black dress to the office party.
Green Coffee Beans.
No one will deny that coffee is the most consumed beverage in America and probably the world. When coffee beans are allowed to mature and harvested just the right time, roasted to perfection, I too get swept away to the "hills of satisfaction" with my first sip.
Drinking coffee is known to curb that hunger and boost energy either for starting your day or those who drink many cups during the day.
Researchers and scientists took notice and explored the effects of green coffee beans and weight loss.
Studies from the National Institute of Health can be found on National Institute of Health.
Slimming Coffee.
Could this be the biggest weight loss discovery of all time? Many are already fondly referring to their green coffee capsules as their "slimming coffee" and feel safe in its consumption since coffee was already a part of their diet.
Whether you call this your "Slim Coffee" or your "Slimming Coffee" I get the feeling that if you are already a coffee drinker then making the choice to try this weight loss discovery will be right up your ally.
If losing weight is a matter of getting healthy and you are finding it difficult to change diets then green coffee beans could be the answer.
Green coffee beans have now found a home among the millions of people who struggled with different diets and will be home for a very long time?
If you are looking for an effective weight loss plan you owe it to yourself to find out how green coffee beans can work for you. You don't have to be a coffee drinker to use green coffee beans. Find out more at http://www.womensi.com/

Fasting and a Better Weight Loss Program

Fasting is not new. In fact, Indian, Asian, and Middle-Eastern mystics have used fasting as a means to connect with higher levels of consciousness for millennia. There is just something about going without food or drink that strips the soul bare and enables the powerful intellect of man to rid itself of most of the distractions that get in the way of realizing eternal truths. This all sounds pretty heavy and heady and it is. However, for practical purposes, fasting actually leads to a better weight loss program We are not proposing fasting as the main way of losing weight. That would be irresponsible, if not outright dangerous. Instead, we are proposing that used in conjunction with a sensible diet and weight loss regimen, fasting can help boost the effect of your weight-loss program. Moreover, fasting can help dieters clear mental hurdles that get in the way of them fully committing to their weight loss regimen. Indeed, in the battle between mind and body, fasting is a great technique that bridges the body and mind to help the mind take full control.
Mind over body
There is no better way to tell your body that you are its boss than through controlled and regulated fasting. Why do you need to tell your body that you are its master? Well, for the most part, the main reason you are reading this article is because you have a tough time keeping your weight in check. In other words, you have a tough time controlling your body. Appetite is a function of the body. Hunger is, in large part, a signal from your body. When you fast, you make a commitment to keep your body in check. It is a brute force method, but it is effective. Fasting communicates to the body that regardless of whatever signals the body sends to the brain regarding hunger, your mind is still in control. By refusing to give in to the body's signals, your mind actually acts to re-balance your body. This is one of the cornerstone benefits of fasting. Let's face it, many of us have out of control appetites. If we see something that looks yummy, we have to take a bite. When a certain time of the day comes, we need to eat, regardless of what we are doing. If you live like this for quite an extended period of time, you slowly realize that your stomach is controlling you. The more you let your stomach win out, the less power you have over your impulses.
Responsible fasting
If you have decided to go on a fast to effect a better weight loss system, you have to be responsible about it. This means you must not put your health in jeopardy. Consult with your doctor first. Prepare lots of juices and nutritious fluids. Don't jump into your fast whole hog. Ease into it. Make adjustments. Remember, real weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. Fast nice and easy. Don't rush into it and always feel free to end your fast the moment it becomes uncomfortable.

10 Weight Loss Statistics

1. The whole world needs to lose weight.
According to the World Health Organization, 1 billion of the world's inhabitants are overweight. (That's almost equal to the number of people who are malnourished in the world.)

Click Here To Check The Link
Globally, over 22 million children under the age of 5 are considered overweight. This epidemic is largely due to increased consumption of processed foods high in calories and saturated fat, and a decrease in physical activity.
2. Nearly two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese.
The World Health Organization estimates that nearly two-thirds of all American adults are overweight. The National Center for Health Statistics recently found that 34% of Americans are clinically obese.
3. 50% of American women and 25% of American men are currently on a diet.
With numbers like the ones above, it's no wonder most Americans feel the need to count calories.
However, society's obsession with thinness comes at a price: Chronic dieting and emerging eating disorders are becoming more common among elementary school children.
4. America's top three killers are linked to obesity.
National Geographic published some eye-opening facts about mortality in the USA.
They found that the top three most statistically likely causes of death were heart disease (with a 1 in 5 chance), cancer (with a 1 in 7 chance), and stroke (with a 1 in 24 chance). All of these have been linked to excess weight.
5. Surprisingly, America isn't the world's fattest nation.
The World Health Organization gives that dubious honor to Samoa, where more than 93% of the population is overweight or obese. The Pacific isle of Kiribati comes next, with an 82% obesity rate.
America rounds out the top three, but is closely followed by Germany (66.5%), Egypt (66%), and Bosnia-Herzegovina (63%).
6. The weight loss industry is fat and happy.
The obesity epidemic might mean misery for some, but it's certainly padded the pockets of the weight loss industry.
In 2007 alone, the American Diatetic Association found that Americans spent $58 billion on weight loss products. Considering that obesity has gone global, you can imagine how lucrative the weight loss industry must be.
7. Over half of the diet industry's claims are false.
As with any booming industry, there are plenty of unscrupulous sellers trying to prey on people's weight loss dreams. The Federal Trade Commission published a study in 2002 which found that 55% of all weight loss claims "strained credibility".
The American Diatetic Association concurs, pointing out the fact that most weight loss products focus on atypical success stories instead of real chances of success.
8. Bariatric surgery doesn't always work.
Discouraged by multiple failed attempts at weight loss, more people than ever are turning to bariatric surgery. However, there is no evidence that gastric bypass or banding result in permanent weight loss.
The University of Virginia conducted a study that revealed gradual weight regain after 6 years post-surgery.
9. Diets don't work either.
The National Institute of Health has estimated that dieters can expect to regain two-thirds of their lost weight within a year of completing their diet plan. These dieters can expect to regain all of their weight, and possibly more, within 5 years.
10. Fortunately, there is a perfect recipe for lasting weight loss.
The National Weight Control Registry tracks 3,000 people who have lost more than 30 pounds and kept it off for more than a year.
They have found that most of the successful dieters have four behaviors in common: they keep a food journal and monitor their weight; they never skip breakfast; they get an hour of exercise almost every day; and they eat diets consisting of 24% fat, 56% carbs, and 19% lean protein.
You can follow that perfect weight loss recipe for yourself and enjoy better health for years to come.

Tribute to mum.

My sister and I have agreed that I will buy a potted King James Black Mulberry tree for the garden area of Acacia Lodge Care Home.

The root ball will be left in the pot, to stop the tree from growing too large. Mum's ashes will be placed below the roots of the tree. There will be a plaque saying "Laurel's Tree", or something similar.

Quick Weight Loss Advice

General Tips

•  Eat at least three times per day.
•  Pay attention to your body. When you feel like you have had enough to eat, stop. Quit
before you feel full, stuffed, or sick from eating. You can have more if you are really
hungry.
•  If you still feel hungry or unsatisfied after a meal or snack, wait at least 10 minutes before
you have more food. Often, the craving will go away.
•  Drink plenty of calorie-free drinks (water, tea, coffee, diet soda). You may be thirsty, not
hungry.
•  Pick lean meats, low-fat or nonfat cheese, and skim (nonfat) or 1% fat milk instead of
higher-fat/higher-calorie choices.
•  Get plenty of fiber. Vegetables, fruits, and whole grains are good sources. Have a high-fiber cereal every day.
•  Cut back on sugar. For example, drink less fruit juice and regular soda.
•  Limit the amount of alcohol (beer, wine, and liquor) that you drink.
•  Keep all food in the kitchen. Eat only in a chosenplace, such as at the table. Don’t eat in
the car or the bedroom or in front of the TV.

Food Preparation

•  Plan meals ahead of time.
•  Try cooking methods that cut calories:

o  Cook without adding fat (bake, broil, roast, boil).
o  Use nonstick cooking sprays instead of butter or oil. You can also use wine, broth,
or fruit juice instead ofoil when cooking.
o  Use low-calorie foods instead of high-calorie ones when possible.

•  Cook only what you need for one meal (don’t make leftovers).
•  If you do make extra portions, put them away as soon as they are ready so you can save
them for other meals. Store the leftovers in containers that you can’t see through.
•  Cook when you are not hungry. For example, cook and refrigerate tomorrow’s dinner
after you have finished eating tonight.
•  Make fruits, vegetables, and other low-calorie foods part of each meal.
•  Drink water while you cook.

Mealtimes

•  Drink a glass of water before youeat. Drink more during meals.
•  Use smaller plates, bowls, glasses, and serving spoons.
•  Divide your plate into four equal parts. Use one part for meat, one for starch (such as
pasta, rice, potatoes, or bread), and two for nonstarchy vegetables.
•  Do not put serving dishes on the table. This will make it harder to take a second portion.
•  Put salad dressing on the side insteadof mixing it with, or pouring onto your salad. Then
dip your fork into the dressing before you spear a bite of salad.
•  Change your usual place at the table.
•  Make mealtime special by using prettydishes, napkins, and glasses.
•  Eat slowly. Take a few one-minute breaks from eating during meals. Put your fork down
between bites. Cut your food one bite at a time.
•  Enjoy fruit for dessert instead of cake, pie, or other sweets.
•  Leave a little food on your plate. (You control the food; it doesn’t control you.)
•  Remove your plate as soon as you’ve finished eating.
•  If there’s no good use for leftovers, throw them out!

Snacking

Snacking can be part of your plan for healthy weight loss. You can eat six times per day as long
as you plan what to eat and don’t eat too many calories.

•  Plan ahead. Be sure to havehealthy snacks on hand. If the right food is not there, you
may be more likely to eat whatever is available, such as candy, cookies, chips, leftovers,
or other “quick” choices.
•  Keep low-calorie snacks in a special part ofthe refrigerator. Good choices include the
following:

o  Reduced-fat string cheese, low-calorie yogurt, and nonfat milk.
o  Washed, bite-size pieces of raw vegetables, such as carrots, celery, pepper strips,
cucumbers, broccoli, and cauliflower. Serve with low-calorie dips.
        o  Fresh fruit.

Eating and Emotions

Do you use eating to deal withfeelings other than hunger, such as boredom, being tired, or
stress? If you eat for these reasons, here are some other things you can try:

•  Call a friend for support.
•  Use inspirational quotes to help you avoid the temptation to eat.
•  Take a warm bath or shower.
•  Listen to music or a relaxation CD.
•  Take a walk.
•  Try activities that keep you from eating. For example, it’s hard to eat while you’re
exercising. If you are gardening, you probablywon’t eat while your hands are covered in
soil.

Respiratory Exchange Ratio (RER) explained.

Science!
What the heck is this?
RER has been mentioned a few times on this blog. By measuring the rate of CO2 exhaled and the rate of O2 inhaled, it's possible to work out how many kcals/min the body is generating from food at any instant and from what fuel mixture.

An RER of 0.700 means that 100% of energy is being generated from fat.
An RER of 1.000 means that 100% of energy is being generated from carbohydrate aerobically.
An RER of >1.000 means that 100% of energy is being generated from carbohydrate, some aerobically and some anaerobically.

How does this work? Fats are an ester of fatty acids + glycerol. Acid + Alcohol = Ester + Water.

Saturated fatty acids (the easiest type to calculate) have the generic formula CH3(CH2)nCOOH, where n can be from 0 to 16. Here are some saturated fatty acids and their n values:- Acetic (0), Propionic (1), Butyric (2), Lauric (10), Myristic (12), Palmitic (14) and Stearic (16). The total number of carbon atoms in each fatty acid is n+2. Stearic acid is mostly a load of CH2s, so lets approximate fat to n(CH2).

n(CH2) + 3/2n(O2) = n(CO2) + n(H2O) + Heat. The ratio of CO2 to O2 is 2/3, so RER = 0.666.

As fats contain things other than CH2 (e.g. glycerol CH2OHCHOHCH2OH), this raises RER to 0.700. Burning protein gives an RER = 0.800.

Carbohydrates have the generic formula n(CH2O), where n = 6 for glucose.

n(CH2O) + n(O2) = n(CO2) + n(H2O) + Heat. The ratio of CO2 to O2 is 1.000, so RER = 1.000.

So how on earth can Eskimos have an RER = 0.600? I have a theory. When hydrogen is oxidised, water only is produced. There is no CO2, so RER = 0.000. Therefore, if some hydrogen was being burned (by gut bacteria, say), this could result in RER falling below 0.700. Maybe...

Thinking hard and its effect on appetite

This looks like an interesting study:

Thinking hard makes you hungry.....so you eat more.  Yet thinking hard doesn't burn calories.  So if you are going to think hard then eat, well you better do something to burn the calories that you are going to add.

Abstract
WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT THIS SUBJECT:
Achievement of a stressful mental task leads to increased energy intake over a short period of time. Given that mental work does not increase energy expenditure, a positive energy balance is observed.
WHAT THIS STUDY ADDS:
The single fact of waiting and relaxing after mental work does not reduce energy intake. Thirty minutes of physical activity performed at moderate/high intensity between mental work and a meal is enough to create a energy deficit compare to a situation where the meal directly follows mental work.
BACKGROUND:
Although energy expenditure during mental work is not higher than energy expenditure at rest, a stressful mental task is related to an increase in energy intake. It is suggested that mental work produces physiological changes, thereby influencing food intake.
OBJECTIVE:
Because physical activity can influence hunger, the aim of the study was to determine if the introduction of an active pause could counteract the negative effects of mental work on energy intake and energy balance.
METHOD:
Twelve male students, of normal weight, between 15 and 20 years old were evaluated. All subjects participated in three different sessions realized in a randomized order: (i) without pause = relaxation/mental work/meal; (ii) relaxation pause = mental work/relaxation/meal; and (iii) exercise pause = mental work/exercise/meal. Energy expenditure was measured with indirect calorimetry, energy intake was measured with a cold buffet-type meal of 40 items, and appetite-related sensations were measured with visual analogue scales. The effect of introducing an active pause in energy intake and energy balance was studied.
RESULTS:
The introduction of an active pause did not influence energy intake; although, higher appetite-related sensations were observed (16-26 mm on a 150-mm scale; P < 0.05). After accounting for the energy expenditure related to physical activity, a lower energy balance was measured for the exercise pause visit compared with the visit without a pause (-1137 kJ; P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION:
This study indicates that being active between mental work and a meal could represent a strategy to create a negative energy balance following mental work via an increased energy expenditure and a maintenance of energy intake. Globally, these results could help individuals attain and/or maintain a healthy body weight in a context where mental work is omnipresent.
